![]() While it's typically better to say for players to manage expectations, this year may be the year to keep an eye on what's coming in the future and to expect some great things from Summer Game Fest 2022. With most game companies keeping silent over the last couple of years, all eyes are squarely focused on Keighley's attempt at supplanting E3. Games like Starfield are less likely to emerge due to the recent delay, but it's safe to expect an avalanche of independent reveals from developers worldwide. Though Xbox and Bethesda will undoubtedly show most Western titles at their conference, some titles like the indie cyberpunk title Replaced may finally re-emerge at Summer Game Fest. Though Square Enix and Capcom will be the big ones to watch this year due to the highest-profile announcements anticipated by them, Western developers are no slouches either. A more hopeful dream would be the recent Final Fantasy pixel remasters released on modern consoles. It's also safe to assume that another remaster will pop up for yet another classic Square RPG franchise, possibly one such as a SaGa series title. Though it may seem more prudent to put a more significant focus on Forspoken, these fan bases don't entirely cross over, and hype for the new IP and the classic franchise won't cannibalize on one another. Final Fantasy 16, in particular, is a game many have been waiting for any update on, and the producer of Final Fantasy 16 has promised a trailer soon, and that the title is near completion. As E3 2022 has been canceled, many have rushed over to Keighley to get the word out for more visibility in an arena with a growing viewer base. The knowledge that many publishers have decided against holding their conferences this year means the showcase is projected to grab even more attention in 2022. However, the event itself didn't feel like a genuine replacement for E3 despite 2021's paltry digital showing. This digital event gives companies the chance to spotlight individual titles and focus less on the schmoozing and courting of developers and press outlets. It has created a number of multi-million-selling game franchises, with its most commercially successful being Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, Street Fighter, Mega Man, Devil May Cry, Dead Rising, Marvel vs. Commenting on next-gen game pricing in a newly released investor Q&A held this month.
